Match in Focus
Phil Foden is delivering an exceptionally strong season, and City needed every bit of it today.
Pep Guardiola admitted the victory over Leeds United was hard fought, as Manchester City edged Leeds 3-2 on Saturday in matchweek 13 of the Premier League.
Leeds almost forced a 2-2 draw at the Etihad before Foden grabbed the winner in the 90+1 minute.
Guardiola told BBC that the game was difficult after Leeds boss Daniel Farke changed their approach, with Calvert-Lewin receiving long balls and behind him Lukas Nmecha.
After the whistle, Guardiola joked that Haaland will score his hundredth goal in the next match; we are simply talking about rest.
He added that Haaland has a strong physical frame and that City clearly need him.
He also praised Foden for his sustained quality and shooting, noting a memorable strike against West Ham as part of his season so far.
Guardiola stressed that Foden should stay close to the box, either shooting or passing, as he is having a truly fantastic season.
With the result, City move temporarily to second on 25 points, two behind Chelsea and four behind Arsenal at the top.
Punchline time: Haaland could probably score while doing laundry if you left the net open. Sniper precision, goal after goal.
Another one: City fans should start keeping receipts—Haaland keeps punching holes in the net and nobody storms out early.
