Hamilton’s Las Vegas Outburst Explained: A Frustration, Not a Change of Heart
Hamilton explains his Las Vegas comments and looks ahead to Ferrari’s winter upgrades.

After Las Vegas, Hamilton Explains His Outburst

Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton said his post-Las Vegas Grand Prix remarks, where he stated he was not looking ahead to next season, came from frustration rather than representing his true stance.

He had started from the back in Las Vegas and finished tenth, marking another tough chapter this season with his new team, in his first year in the Prancing Horse.

Broadcasts of his comments carried by the BBC noted that those words were uttered in a moment of anger. There is often plenty of frustration after bad races, but I am excited to see what the team builds next year and to keep evolving with them.

Asked whether he would sign for Ferrari, if he had known how difficult the season would be, he replied that he felt no regret about joining the team. Building and absorbing the new system takes time, and he anticipated that, so yes.

Hamilton hoped that joining Ferrari would push him toward an eighth world title, but his first year fell well short of expectations.

The seven-time world champion, now 40, wants a more competitive car next season, especially with major technical rule changes likely to suit his driving style that brought him success between 2007 and 2021.

From the start of the next season, new chassis and power unit rules will raise the emphasis on hybrid power, and a styling philosophy reminiscent of Hamilton’s Mercedes era is returning.

But Hamilton stressed Ferrari has a lot of work to do during the winter to improve on-track operations.

He added that they would analyse the season, and there are many aspects to improve collectively. Everyone in the team knows they will need to push hard. He believes they can do it and hopes to enact those changes with a stronger package next year.

He also said he was not worried about teammate Charles Leclerc’s dominance this season, insisting that he was simply focused on his own work.

Charles has done a great job; he’s been here seven years, with a well-integrated team around him, so things have been running in harmony.

He added that for him everything is new: a new environment, new people, even new members joining mid-season.

In the end, Hamilton said the team is giving its all, but building a truly synchronized crew takes time.

Punchline 1: If anger burned calories, Hamilton would already be a world champion before lunch.

Punchline 2: Don’t worry—the winter upgrades are coming; even Ferraris need a firmware update to finally learn how to behave around the gas pedal.
