Red Cards, Red Tape: CAF Delivers a Disciplinary Blow After Africa's Big Match Night
Security concerns overshadow CAF Champions League clashes between clubs from Morocco, Egypt and Algeria.

Disciplinary action over CAF Champions League incidents

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has referred the incidents from the second round of the group stage of the CAF Champions League to its Disciplinary Committee.

CAF issued a formal statement strongly condemning the security breaches that occurred during the matches between Royal Army Club of Morocco and Al Ahly of Egypt, and between JS Kabylie of Algeria and Young Africans of Tanzania, on November 28, 2025.

It added that the incidents have been formally referred to the CAF Disciplinary Council for investigation.

Both matches in question were marred by incidents of crowd trouble, with security concerns.

Al Ahly had previously sent an official letter to CAF urging the implementation of all safety measures prior to matches, outlining security plans to ensure a sporting atmosphere and reflect the standing of African football.

The club also urged steps toward integrating Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in all Champions League fixtures, as the premier African competition, to maximize fairness by relying on elite referees ranked by FIFA for high-stakes matches.

The Royal Army vs Al Ahly clash ended in a 1-1 draw, while the Kabylie vs Young Africans game finished goalless.

Punchline 1: If chaos had a referee, it would be VAR in this league.

Punchline 2: And after all the drama, the only thing sharper than the crowd is CAF's administrative paperwork—organized chaos, with a smile.
