Reds Demand Sanctions Against Zamalek Fans After Controversial Super Cup Final
12 November 2025
Complaint to the Egyptian FA
Al Ahly filed a formal complaint with the Egyptian Football Association today, seeking an urgent investigation into alleged “unethical” conduct by Zamalek fans toward Ahmed Zizou and his family during the Egyptian Super Cup final held on Sunday at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
According to the club's statement, Zizou was subjected to insulting chants and obscene language in full view of attendees, including Ashraf Sobhi, the sports minister and other football leaders.
The club argued that such episodes have recurred and are not deterred by current measures, and insisted on applying regulations to restore the player's reputation and reinforce fair play.
Travel plans, CAF commitments, and ongoing disputes
In a separate update, Al Ahly’s management decided to travel to Morocco by private flight right after the Ismaili match on November 25, then join the team for upcoming CAF competition matches, including a Nov 22 clash with JS Kabylie in Cairo to kick off the group stage.
After the Cairo match, the Reds will head to Borg Al Arab to face the Dervishes and then depart for a Moroccan fixture against the Royal Army Club on Nov 28.
Zamalek's counter-claim and other notes
Zamalek announced a formal complaint to the Disciplinary Committee against Zizo for his conduct during the trophy ceremony, citing breach of respect and protocol and referencing Article 6/6 of the disciplinary and ethics code. They called for sanctions against the player.
Hesham Nasser criticized Zizo's actions as non-compliant with international protocols, urging strict enforcement of the rules and highlighting the need for proper conduct during medal ceremonies.
Return, training, and squad updates
Al Ahly's delegation returned to Cairo after winning the Super Cup, with a 2-0 victory over Zamalek, and some players missing the return flight due to national team call-ups.
The club also announced a postponed meeting with coach Jes Torup to discuss transfer plans, with Torup and aides returning to Denmark for a short break, and players being granted five days of rest after the trophy triumph.
Upcoming development: Portuguese training stint and other notes
In other news, Al Ahly approved a training stay for young defender Ahmed Abdin at Famalicao in Portugal, following his standout display at the recent youth World Cup in Chile. The move includes a potential loan with an option to buy pending all parties' agreement.
Lastly, the club confirmed that winger Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet is returning to Cairo due to a hamstring issue and will not join the national team camp in the UAE, with medical updates to be shared with the national team staff.
Punchlines: If this rivalry were a goal tally, Zamalek would be top of the table in melodrama. And remember: football is life, but the protocol is the referee’s little cousin, always calling the fouls you don’t expect.
