Injury, Resolve, and a Pharaohs' Hope
Egypt national team player comments on his serious injury.
Mohamed Hamdi, the left-back for Pyramids and Egypt, said he will remain with the Pharaohs' squad in Morocco, despite tearing his ACL.
Hamdi suffered a torn ACL on Monday night during Egypt's 3-1 win over Benin in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 Round of 16 in Morocco.
Hamdi, via his official Instagram, said: "Praise be to God for everything... an unfortunate injury at a tough time; I had hoped to finish the tournament and be on the pitch with the team until the end, helping to win the title, but praise be to God for everything".
He added: "I will be there supporting my teammates with the national team and cheering for them with our great fans".
He also said: "Thanks for all the support, and God willing, a swift return stronger, and the most important thing is to celebrate with Egypt and make our fans smile".
Egypt's team is preparing for a quarterfinal on Saturday, against the winner of the Côte d'Ivoire vs Burkina Faso match scheduled for Tuesday evening.
Despite the setback, Hamdi vowed to return stronger and help Egypt chase glory again soon—Punchline 1: ACLs can't keep him down; Punchline 2: he'll be back before you know it.
