After the Mali Draw, Ainawi Sets Morocco’s AFCON Challenge
Naïl Al-Aynawi, one of Morocco’s breakout players this year, appeared visibly disappointed after yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Mali in the second group game of AFCON 2025, played on home soil.
The result keeps Morocco in the hunt for a knockout berth from Group A.
Even though Ainawi earned the man-of-the-match honor, he spoke to Moroccan television with emotion, telling Atlas Lions fans that the result was not ideal, but not a disaster either.
He added that the group’s destiny remains in their own hands and that they will beat Zambia with God’s help to go through and stay in Rabat.
Ainawi also urged the team to avoid creeping doubt, saying the aim is to maintain the same spirit, confidence, and optimism and to regain balance quickly. Doubt is the enemy, and the squad needs the fans’ support more than ever.
Morocco will play their final group match against Zambia on Monday.
Punchline 1: If suspense were a sport, AFCON would win gold; Morocco’s next game promises the real blockbuster.
Punchline 2: The defense might be a little rough around the edges, but the crowd’s support—like coffee—keeps them alert and energized.
