Barcelona reportedly eye Algerian talent Mazah during CAN
A Spanish newspaper report reveals Barcelona's renewed interest in signing Ibrahim Mazah, the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder and Algeria international currently competing at the Africa Cup of Nations.
According to the Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo, citing Algerian outlets, Barcelona scouts will closely monitor Mazah's performance as Algeria face Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday, in Group E action where the Greens lead the group with six points from two games.
Mazah, born in Berlin in November 2005, operates as an attacking midfielder and can also play as a second striker or on the wings.
Since joining Leverkusen last summer from Hertha Berlin, Mazah has enjoyed a notable season, scoring four goals and providing three assists in 21 appearances for the German club.
The German club reportedly paid 12 million euros to sign him, and he signed a deal through 2030, boosting his market value and making any future move financially tricky.
While there has been no official confirmation from Barcelona yet, Mazah's name remains among the players to watch in the coming weeks, especially if he continues to shine with the Algerian squad at the continental championship.
Punchline 1: If Mazah keeps this up, Barca might need a bigger trophy cabinet and a bigger calendar.
Punchline 2: And if he ends up pricey, my bank account will start signing autographs too.
