Barça Locks In Garcia, Inter Milan Rumors Fade
Eric Garcia's contract extension reinforces Barca's defensive line amid Inter Milan interest.

Renewal Sparks Barcelona Confidence

Barça president Joan Laporta settled the fate of Spanish defender Eric Garcia amid swirling speculation about his future, particularly after reports just hours earlier linking him with Inter Milan.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Laporta announced Garcia's contract extension with Barça through June 2031, securing him.

Laporta added the official announcement would come next Thursday, December 11, which is this week.

The renewal signals the club's growing confidence in the Spaniard, trusted by both management and the technical staff who rely on him this season, so far.

Garcia has been Barça's most-used player this season, clocking 1,510 minutes across 20 official appearances, and has become a backbone there.

He had moments of doubt, including a loan to Girona in 2023-24, but he proved himself again to Barça and became a key starter under coach Hans Flick this season.

Asked whether Barcelona planned to sign a new defender in winter window, Laporta said "Deco is working hard, and perhaps there are opportunities in the market, but Flick will extract the best from our players".

Concluding, he said we can't reveal signings yet, but we'll stay vigilant and everything must be studied carefully together.

If Garcia signs for 2031, the calendar will need a bigger wallet.

Inter Milan may cry foul, but hey, even banners deserve a nap.
