Barcelona awaits crucial 1C license to reopen Gol Nord
Barcelona has waited for weeks to receive the first-use license for Phase 1C, allowing the Gol Nord area at Camp Nou to reopen and raise attendance to 62,000 spectators.
The club had hoped to secure the permit before the Copa del Rey semifinal second leg, believing a fuller stadium would help close the deficit, but the city council expressed reservations about access.
Barça insists Gol Nord is fully ready and that all required documents were sent weeks ago, while the city council wants improved access conditions before granting the license.
According to AS, Barcelona remains confident that the approval could arrive today, Friday, or by next Monday at the latest.
Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta reportedly pressured the city council, saying the lack of the Phase 1C permit did not help in the Atletico Madrid match.
Laporta added that if the three stands and Gol Nord were available, Barça might have scored more. Officials say the license will be granted before election day; they are simply waiting to understand why it has been delayed.
Barcelona also exited the Copa del Rey in the semi-finals, losing 0-4 in the away leg and winning 3-0 in the return.
