Basavaridi opens with a four-set win in Jeddah.

Match recap

Nishesh Basavaridi opened the 2025 Next Gen Finals in Jeddah with a four-set victory over Croatian Dino Brizmić, in a match that swung across four sets.

In his first appearance under new coach Gil Servara, the 20-year-old claimed his first pro tour win since Hangzhou in mid-September.

After saving three break points to survive the second set, Basavaridi faltered on serve late in the third set, dropping his serve once in the frame.

He regained control early in the fourth, breaking Brizmić’s serve to seal the win 4-2, 4-3, 3-4, 4-2.

“I feel amazing. Winning the opening group stage is huge, and finishing in four sets is a good result,” Basavaridi told the Professional Players Association site.

“Having prior experience helps, but a year has passed since we last played this format, so there are still adjustments. Every set goes fast, one break can shift momentum entirely.”

Punchline 1: If his serves are as sharp as his excuses, the ball might need a passport.

Punchline 2: In the next match, the ball will probably file a complaint for too much backspin on those lessons learned.
