Breaking the Unbeatable: Al-Ahli’s 4-0 Masterclass in Asia
20 October 2025
Record-setting win in the AFC Champions League Elite
Al-Ahli Saudi FC celebrated a milestone by routing Al-Gharafa 4-0 in the third matchday of the AFC Champions League Elite group stage, extending their continent-wide dominance.
The reigning champions delivered a performance that went beyond a mere victory, rebuilding momentum after a 2-2 draw with Al-Duhail in the previous round.
Head coach Matthias Jaissle’s squad set a new benchmark with the longest active unbeaten streak in the continental competition, reaching 21 matches.
On the night, Enzo Milot opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, followed by Franck Kessié netting twice (38th and 41st), and Saleh Abu Al-Shamat sealing the 4-0 in the 76th minute.
The Asian Football Confederation’s official X account highlighted the milestone: the longest unbeaten run in the continent now stands at 21 matches for Al-Ahli.
Al-Ahli also extended their dominance over Qatari clubs in Asia as part of this run, highlighting their continental impact and consistency against regional rivals.
Looking ahead, the club will continue defending their title while facing stiff competition in the Saudi Pro League, with rivals like Al-Nasr and Al-Hilal close behind.
Celebrations, rivalries and future outlook
Al-Ahli celebrated on X with a bold message signaling the milestone and taking a subtle jab at rivals, particularly Al-Hilal.
Domestic history adds another layer to the story, as a historic rivalry with Al-Hilal has shaped many campaigns, with Al-Hilal having claimed Asian honors in the past while Al-Ahli push to mirror that success.
Al-Ahli also served as the stand-in for Al-Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup after the Italian coach of Al-Hilal opted to rest his players following their standout run at the Club World Cup 2025; Al-Hilal later bowed out, allowing Al-Ahli to take part and open the season by beating Al-Qadsiah and Al-Nassr to claim a precious domestic trophy.
The 4-0 win at King Abdullah Stadium in Jeddah leaves Al-Ahli well-placed to defend their continental title as the campaign progresses.
