Celtic part ways with coach after 33 days: a rapid managerial shake-up in Scotland
5 January 2026
Update
Celtic, the club, announced Monday the dismissal of its French coach Wilfried Nancy, just 33 days after his appointment.
Celtic had said on December 3 that Nancy, 48, was appointed on a two-and-a-half-year contract, arriving from Columbus Crew.
The club thanked Nancy for his efforts and wished him and his family best for the future.
The firing included Nancy's assistants Kwami Ambado, Joël Gigen, and Maxime Chalié.
Nancy led eight matches, with just two wins since taking charge.
No Celtic manager before him started with four defeats in his first four games.
Nancy had won the U.S. Open Cup and MLS Cup, and was named MLS Coach of the Year in 2024.
Punchline one: Patience is Celtic kryptonite.
Punchline two: They fired a coach after 33 days, calendar drama for the fans.
