Chelsea Boss Bristles but Stays Put: Maresca’s 48-Hour Storm and Steady Resolve
15 December 2025
What Happened
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, the Italian at the helm, reiterated his firm commitment to staying with the club, despite a burst of anger and his claim that he has endured the club's "worst 48 hours" of his tenure so far.
The Italian boss delivered the remarks after his side beat Everton 2-0 on Saturday in the Premier League, directing his criticisms at unnamed bodies for failing to back him and the players, stressing that he did not mean the fans.
He declined to elaborate on Monday when pressed at a press conference on the eve of a League Cup quarter-final against Cardiff City, a team from the third tier.
Ma r esca's Stance
Maresca looked clearly unhappy as journalists pressed him about clarifying his comments, which had sparked speculation that he was aiming at the club's owners and sporting directors.
The Italian told reporters that he respects the views of people, but as he had already said, there is nothing to add and his focus is solely on tomorrow's game (Tuesday) when they can reach the semi-finals for the third time in 18 months since he joined the club.
He also reiterated that his remarks were not aimed at Chelsea's supporters, stating that he loves Chelsea fans and they deserve the best.
When asked if he remains in his post, he answered that he certainly does.
Season Context and Outlook
In his first season with Chelsea, since taking over in July 2024, Maresca has won the Conference League and the Club World Cup, and his team currently sit fourth in the Premier League, with a chance to advance to the last-16 of the Champions League.
The former Leicester City manager says he is enjoying the season despite the immense pressure, adding that when you manage Chelsea, you know the expectations are higher. This season, perhaps a little higher than last. Maybe because of winning the Club World Cup and Conference League and finishing fourth in the league.
Punchline 1: If emotions were goals, Maresca would be leading the league by a comfortable margin.
Punchline 2: Chelsea’s press conferences are so dramatic that even the trophy cabinet needs a nap after the show.
