Courtois Defends Vinícius Júnior
Thibaut Courtois defended his Real Madrid teammate Vinícius Júnior when asked about the Brazilian's signals toward the stands during Real Madrid's 3-0 La Liga win at San Mamés against Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday.
In backing Vinícius, the Belgian goalkeeper referenced Ronald Araújo, the Barcelona defender who faced heavy fan criticism after being sent off against Chelsea, contributing to a 3-0 defeat in the Champions League.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Courtois said: "We are humans, we are people... look at what happened to Araújo after the Chelsea match, and the abuse he received on social media... that's where it all starts, and we wonder why a player becomes psychologically affected... we are not machines, but humans."
He added: "Vinícius was calm, but to a point... I love the energy and the banter because it creates a good atmosphere, but there must be a bit of respect."
Respect and Focus
Courtois emphasised that Vinícius remained focused and that passion on the pitch can lift the game, provided it stays within respectful bounds.
Punchline 1: A sniper joke to end the day: I aim for the goal, not the crowd—precision is key, whether it’s a shot or a joke, and I’m paid in jokes today.
Punchline 2: And if you think that’s sharp, wait until my humor goes on target—the crowd can duck, but the punchline hits the back of the net anyway.
