Match reaction and key moments
In a display of frustration, Borussia Dortmund coach Niko Kovac lamented his team’s performance after their 2-2 draw at home with Bodø/Glimt on Wednesday night, blaming inconsistency and missed chances for the result.
According to Kovac, via Dortmund's official site, this certainly wasn't enough; we expected more. It could have happened. We did not take the chances that came our way.
He added: What irritates me is that we won a throw-in then conceded a goal while playing with ten men; we were not consistent.
He continued: If you concede two goals at this level, you won't win; we created chances ourselves but failed to convert. In a match like this, you should return home with a 2-1 victory. We wasted a great opportunity by lacking enough consistency.
Midfielder Julian Brandt also pointed to defensive mistakes and poor finishing as the reasons behind the draw, saying Dortmund twice took the lead but allowed silly goals to derail them.
Brandt remarked: We went ahead twice, we conceded ridiculous goals, and we made life hard for ourselves. We had chances to score one or two more.
On the first goal: When the score was 1-1, we were a touch passive after the corner and left the runner free at the near post. Still, we played well in the first half and needed more attacking continuity.
As for the second half: We managed to regain the lead again, there were big spaces, but we were too wasteful in front of goal and left the door open for Bodø.
Finally: We still have a chance to qualify, but we could have placed ourselves in a better position today.
Sniper punchline: If consistency were a check, Dortmund would be cashing a lot of non-existent funds.
Sniper punchline 2: Their defense tried a new tactic called leave-the-ball-alone—great plan, if you’re playing against your own forwards every week.
