Russia Leads the Medal Table as Dubai Hosts the World Boxing Championships 2025
Russia topped the final standings with 13 medals, including 7 golds, at the 23rd edition of the World Boxing Championships for elite men, held in Dubai under the supervision of the IBA. The event carried a historic prize pool of 8 million USD.
Russian boxers captured 7 golds, 5 silvers and 1 bronze. Kazakhstan collected 3 golds, 1 silver and 2 bronzes (6 total). Uzbekistan earned 2 golds along with 4 silvers and 3 bronzes (9 total). Azerbaijan took the last gold with a total of 3 medals (1 gold, 2 bronzes).
The finals night produced 13 title bouts. Prize money was distributed per weight category: 300,000 USD for gold, 150,000 USD for silver, 75,000 USD for bronze, with 50% to the boxer, 25% to coaches and 25% to the national federation.
The Emirati champion Hamza Shimaev joined the celebration during the gold-medal ceremonies alongside boxing legends such as Artur Petriyev. In the finals, competitors across weights from 48 kg to 86 kg represented Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Russia, with several golds claimed in different divisions.
Winners across weights highlighted the strength of the region, with Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Russia sharing the spoils as Dubai marked a new era for the sport and its prize money. The night also underlined the close ties between athletes, coaches and national federations, as the purse was split in ways that reward both the athletes and their teams.
Punchline 1: If boxing were a dating app, the ring would be “swipe right” for knockouts and “left” for dodges—talk about a match made in ... the corner.
Punchline 2: They say the belt is tighter than a tax audit—because in boxing, every punch has to justify its weight in gold. And yes, the trophies are now considering therapy after tonight’s drama.
