Egypt's World Cup Group: Tough Path Ahead and a Treble Dream from El Badry
6 December 2025
Group outlook and Egypt’s challenge
Hossam El Badry, coach of Libyan side Al Ahli Tripoli, commented on Egypt being drawn into Group 7 for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Belgium, Iran and New Zealand.
In an exclusive interview with Kooora, he said he is happy for Egypt's qualification and wished the team success in the next phase.
Badry also recalled his own stint with Egypt from 2019 to 2021 and noted that he led the team to the Africa Cup of Nations final in 2021.
He added that the group is not easy but balanced, so careful preparation will be essential. He highlighted Belgium and Iran as strong sides with extensive World Cup experience.
Badry’s club ambitions and recent triumphs
Turning to his duties with Al Ahli Tripoli, he said he is proud to have won the Libyan Cup final 3-0 against Al Ahli Benghazi after earlier clinching the league title.
He expects the club to chase the domestic treble by also lifting the Libyan Super Cup after the league and cup wins, and he thanked the club management for their strong support through a successful spell.
Upcoming final and outlook
Al Ahli Tripoli is set to face Al Ahli Benghazi in the Libyan Super Cup final two days later at Cairo Stadium.
Punchline 1: If this World Cup group were a sniper’s target, Egypt would be right in the bullseye—steady aim, big drama, and a chance for a surprise in the last act.
Punchline 2: As for the treble dream, think of it as a hat trick with a plot twist—spectators will be kept on the edge of their seats, popcorn optional but recommended.
