Egypt's Young Handball Heroes Return: World Silver Sparks a New Era
2 November 2025
Homecoming and Pride
Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Egypt's Minister of Youth and Sports, greeted the national youth handball team (born 2008) with flowers on their arrival at Cairo International Airport, after they earned a silver medal at the World Championship held in Morocco.
The minister expressed pride in their heroic performance and the exceptional level shown by the young players, saying they provided a proud example of perseverance and ambition that raised Egypt's name among the world's handball nations.
He urged the players and the coaching staff to maintain the momentum and gear up for continued success in future stages, stressing that the state values young talent and will keep supporting budding athletes.
Sobhi also thanked Khaled Fathy, president of the Egyptian Handball Federation and head of the delegation in Morocco, for the federation's hard work in developing new generations and achieving consecutive feats that lift Egypt's flag on the international stage.
The reception was festive, with families and fans of Egyptian handball cheering the heroes as they returned.
Global Tale: The federation described the team's journey as a global tale, not a coincidence, but a generation trained with modern methods to become a model in world handball.
The federation's communications center stated that the World Cup run was not accidental, but the product of careful planning and execution.
During the preparation, staff realized that Spain, the European champions and strongest team this age group, was the true measure of progress. The Egyptians played three friendlies against Spain and lost all three, yet those losses forged the glory that followed, as coach Emad Ibrahim and his staff refined the team physically and tactically to stand with the giants.
In the final phase of preparation, the youngsters faced top Egyptian clubs, beating the giants despite age gaps, signaling the rise of a new champion generation, and then the World Cup in Morocco confirmed their explosive potential as they defeated Brazil, the United States, and Morocco to reach the semifinals and the anticipated clash with Spain.
They entered the semifinal with unshaken confidence after their historic win over Spain 31-28, a victory that stunned the world and propelled Egypt to the final against Germany, a marathon match decided only in extra time with a narrow defeat.
Teamwork was hailed as the driving force by coach Khaled Fathy and the federation. The minister's leadership and the Olympic Committee's support were singled out for helping create this momentum that could redefine Egyptian handball.
As the journey concludes, two light thoughts: If confidence were a goal, this team would build a city on it; and if passes were weapons, the scoreboard would need armor. Punchlines to close: 1) Their confidence is so sharp it could cut through a defense; 2) The whistle may be the only thing that keeps up with their tempo.
Two punchlines to close: If confidence were a goal, this team would own the stadium. If passes were weapons, the scoreboard would need a shield.
