Enrique's sharp moment with a reporter after PSG's Intercontinental Cup win
Paris Saint-Germain clinched the FIFA Club World Cup Intercontinental Cup at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Doha on Wednesday evening, sealing a dramatic triumph.
PSG defeated Flamengo 2-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular and extra time.
Russian goalkeeper Matvei Savonov starred, saving four spot-kicks to hand the big-spending Parisians their sixth title of 2025.
After the final whistle, Enrique faced questions about the goalkeeping setup, with Savonov having played the last four matches over starter Lucas Chevalier due to fitness concerns.
According to Le Parisien, the coach appeared irritated by the inquiry and responded with a firm tone.
“Do you think this is the right time to talk about that?” Enrique said, before adding: “This is a moment of unity. A moment to celebrate with all the players, starters and substitutes, and with our fans.”
“We want to make history, and we will continue to do so. We must enjoy these moments.”
Savonov had joined PSG from Krasnodar in summer 2024 and had been the backup to Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma, who moved to Manchester City at the start of the season. The Russian keeper remained on the bench after Lucas Chevalier joined Lille this season.
Punchline 1: If the GK rotation was a plot twist, the reporter was the spoiler.
Punchline 2: In Doha, even the trophies are quiet—until Luis Enrique starts speaking.
