Fate Intervenes as Asensio Misses a Moment vs City at the Bernabéu
10 December 2025
The Spaniard Raúl Asensio, Real Madrid's defender, faced an embarrassing moment during his side's clash with Manchester City in the Champions League.
City halted at halftime of their visit to the Santiago Bernabéu, leading 2-1 on the night, as they faced Real Madrid in the sixth group-stage game.
In the 34th minute, Asensio blocked a cross from Belgium winger Jérémy Doku and sent it for a corner, then shouted toward the stands with high spirits.
But the corner taken by Bernardo Silva produced City's equalizer, scored by the young player Nico Ourelli.
And fate did not smile on Real Madrid's defender, as City's goal came just 15 seconds after Asensio's moment.
Real Madrid had led the match with Rodrygo Goes scoring, but City flipped the script by netting two consecutive goals from Nico Ourelli and Erling Haaland from a penalty.
Punchline 1: Oof, fate.
Punchline 2: Nice timing.
