Four-year redeal: Al Ahly re-elects Mahmoud El-Khatib as president with acclamation
Mahmoud El-Khatib secures another four-year term as Al Ahly president.

Election results and leadership team

Mahmoud El-Khatib has retained the presidency of Al Ahly for a new four-year term (2025-2029) after elections held today, Friday, at the club's Gezira Island headquarters, with 11,768 members in attendance.

El-Khatib's list won by acclamation, with Yassin Mansour elected as deputy president and engineer Khaled Mortagy as secretary.

Among the under-40 members, Ibrahim Al-Amri and Roida Hisham were returned by acclamation, while several senior board members — Said Abdel-Hafiz, Tarek Kandil, Mohamed El-Gezawy, Mohamed El-Demati, Mohamed El-Garhy, Ahmed Hossam Awd and Hazem Hilal — were also elected or confirmed to the board.

Speech, unity, and governance

In a speech after reaching the legal quorum, El-Khatib thanked the club's General Assembly for their active participation in shaping the club's future and for endorsing a new board to lead Al Ahly for the next four years.

He emphasized that the assembly was a model of belonging, awareness, and positive participation in decision-making, noting that two general meetings were held within one month — one to harmonize the club's bylaws with sports law, and the other an ordinary general assembly for elections — and that members' presence demonstrated their commitment to the club's role in its history.

He thanked the previous board (2021-2025) for serving with sincerity and dedication, thanked those not included in his list for their understanding of the plan, and stressed that differences in visions do not divide Al Ahly because all members share loyalty and belonging.

He concluded: Al Ahly will remain strong with the loyal participation of its members, and the General Assembly will help build the club's future.

Logistics and upcoming events

The president of the Supervisory Committee announced that, while the ordinary assembly's agenda could not be fully completed in the second meeting, the board was authorized to handle the items not voted on, except for the budget and final accounts which would be referred to the administrative authority and then to the Central Auditing Agency in accordance with the club rules.

Regarding the board election, quorum was reached after polls closed at 7 p.m., with more than 11,000 votes tallied, and counting continues to announce the final results.

The club had opened voting to its General Assembly members to elect a board for 2025-2029. Mahmoud El-Khatib stood as the sole candidate for president, with Yassin Mansour for vice president, Khaled Mortagy for secretary, and eight senior-year board candidates — including Tarek Kandil, Mohamed Demati, Mohamed El-Gezawy, Mohamed El-Gharhy, Ahmed Hossam Awad, Hazem Hilal, Said Abdel-Hafiz — along with Hussein Tantawy as a future candidate, while under-35 members included Ibrahim Al-Amri and Roida Hisham.

The administration also arranged transport and logistics, including the rental of garages and the deployment of shuttles from Nasr City, New Cairo, and Zaïd to the Gezira headquarters to facilitate voting.

Trip to the UAE and upcoming fixtures

The football department has planned a trip to the United Arab Emirates on Monday ahead of the Egyptian Super Cup, scheduled for November 6-9. Al Ahly will begin the tournament against Ceramica Cleopatra in the semifinals on November 6 at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain, while Zamalek and Pyramids will meet on the same day at Al Wahda Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The victors will play the final on November 9 at Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

A reliable source said the delegation will fly to Dubai, then transfer directly to Al Ain; the team will hold its first training on a secondary field on Tuesday, followed by a final training on Wednesday and a press conference with the head coach and captain Mohamed El-Shennawy.

Domestic action: Al Ahly resumed training in the evening to prepare for the clash with Al Masry at Borg El Arab Stadium in the 13th round. Danish coach Jis Torup gave players a 24-hour rest yesterday before they head to Alexandria for a closed camp tomorrow.

Punchline 1: If leadership were a football drill, El-Khatib just delivered a flawless four-year pass—no red cards, just applause.

Punchline 2: They voted so decisively the referee asked for a replay—looks like the ballot box is the new goal-line technology.
