Near-Bayern, Newcastle's record signing
German striker Nik Voltimade revealed details about the summer 2025 transfer window, admitting he was close to joining Bayern Munich before ending up in the English Premier League with Newcastle United on a record deal.
Bayern pursued, but a Stuttgart price tag changed the game
Bayern had pushed hard to sign the German international, but Stuttgart's financial demands were high enough to scupper the Bavarian club’s plans, and Voltimade moved to Newcastle for about €85 million.
Destiny, quotes and a rapid deal
In an interview with Bild, Voltimade said, 'When I realized things wouldn’t go as planned with Bayern, I told myself: so be it. In life, everything happens for a reason and with a purpose.'
Voltimade added: 'Missed by Bayern, I believe fate hid something better. I’m thrilled to be at Newcastle now; this wouldn’t have happened if the first deal had gone through. I’m grateful everything happened the way it did and I believe in fate.'
He described the process as rapid after his agent reached out about Newcastle’s interest, and he immediately wanted to hear the offer.
He said he had excellent talks with Eddie Howe, that Howe is a truly wonderful person, and that he felt an instant urge to take the step as the process moved at lightning speed.
And in a recent recap, a piece highlighted Newcastle United’s readiness for the Carabao Cup clash with Fulham, with Voltimade glowing about the move and the new challenge ahead.
He added: 'I’m excited about the new challenge and the Premier League; the whole process moved quickly.'
In the closing lines, Voltimade confirmed talks with Howe and sealed the sense that Newcastle United is a perfect fit, as he prepared for a high-profile fixture against Fulham in the League Cup.
