From Grudges to Guilty Grins: Carragher Apologizes to Salah on Live TV
10 December 2025
The apology and the reaction
Jamie Carragher, the former Liverpool defender turned pundit, apologized to Mohamed Salah after his recent remarks that criticized Salah following Salah's comments about Inter Milan's coach Arne Slot and his place on the bench for three consecutive games.
From criticism to apology
Carragher had argued that Salah was a player hardly known before joining Liverpool and claimed Salah had failed during his Chelsea spell.
On CBS and the game
Carragher delivered his apology on CBS during coverage of Inter Milan vs Liverpool in the Champions League, telling Salah: "Mo, I\'m sorry if I upset you, I love you as a Liverpool player." He added that Salah needed to control his conduct off the pitch and act more appropriately.
Match outcome and rationale
Liverpool earned a hard-fought 1-0 win in Italy, in the sixth round of the Champions League group stage. Slot, in agreement with Liverpool's management, had Salah omitted from that match following his outspoken remarks after the Leeds United game.
Punchline 1: If apologies paid were goals, Carragher would be top scorer this season.
Punchline 2: And remember, timing is everything—on and off the pitch, sometimes the bench is the punchline.
