PSG Head to Doha With Hakimi Out
Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi, Paris Saint-Germain's right-back, will miss a major event for his French side.
Under the guidance of Luis Enrique, the squad has traveled to Qatar to compete in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
PSG advanced directly to the final where they will face Flamengo in a showdown at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Doha on Wednesday.
Flamengo qualified after lifting the Challenge Cup by beating Egyptian side Pyramids, Africa's champions, 2-0 in the semi-final on Sunday.
French newspaper Le Parisien reported that Ousmane Dembele and Marquinhos would return to the squad after missing the last two matches due to injuries.
The young forward Sini Mayolo will stay in Paris for an extra day to rest after an illness, and will join the squad in Doha later.
The report adds that Hakimi is the only Paris Saint-Germain player absent for this match.
Hakimi has been sidelined since a serious ankle injury in the Champions League win over Bayern Munich on November 4.
He is currently recovering as he aims to join the Morocco squad preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations from December 21 to January 18, 2026.
Punchline: If you blink, you might miss Hakimi's ankle, but not the ball.
Punchline: PSG's plan B? A bench with better lighting; the ball still finds them, just not when Hakimi sits this one out.
