Injury hits Pyramids ahead of the Egyptian Super Cup

Pyramids FC have suffered a fresh setback ahead of the Egyptian Super Cup, which is scheduled to be played in the UAE from November 6 to 9 this year.

Pyramids will meet their rivals Zamalek on Thursday in the semi-final of the Egyptian Super Cup, while Al Ahly face Ceramica Cleopatra in the same round.

Pyramids have never won the Egyptian Super Cup, though they have won the Egypt Cup.

The Sky Blue team is taking part by invitation of the tournament's sponsor, alongside Al Ahly, the league champions, Zamalek, Egypt Cup winners, and Ceramica Cleopatra, Cairo's Cup holders.

Pyramids earned an important 2-1 victory over visiting Al Ittihad SC in the 13th round of the Egyptian Premier League, with Marwan Hamdi and Ahmed Atef "Cat" scoring for the Sky Blue.

The win lifted their tally to 20 points from 9 matches in fourth place, with two games in hand against Petrojet and Kahraba Ismailia.

Injury Update

Mohamed Al-Maniri, head of the medical staff at Pyramids, provided details about Burkina Faso international midfielder Blati Touré's injury sustained during the Al Ittihad SC game.

Touré left the game injured in the first half at the Air Defense Stadium, with Moroccan midfielder Walid El-Karti coming on as his replacement.

Al-Maniri explained that Touré felt pain in the posterior thigh and will undergo an MRI to assess the severity before the squad travels to the UAE for the Super Cup.

Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurčić had previously left-back Mohamed Hamdi out of the match against Al Ittihad SC, in a bid to rest players amid heavy domestic and international schedules ahead of the UAE fixtures.

Pyramids also face notable absences ahead of the Super Cup, including Ramadan Sobhi, Mustafa Fathi, Osama Jalal, and Youssef Ibrahim Ouma due to unavailability.

Gearing Up for a New Trophy

Pyramids FC is one of the newest and fastest-rising football projects in Egyptian history, having quickly established itself among the top clubs and challenging traditional powers for domestic and continental titles.

The club was founded as Misr Lel Makasa SC in 2008 in Beni Suef, with a mission to develop football in Upper Egypt and provide a professional administrative model.

After promotion to the Premier League in 2014-15, the team began drawing attention for its evolving level, before being acquired in 2018 and rebranded as Pyramids FC.

Ownership passed from Saudi investor Turki Al Sheikh to a group of Egyptian investors, transforming Pyramids with major investments in infrastructure and signings, bringing in stars such as Abdallah El-Said, Omar Gaber, Ahmed El-Shenawy, Ali Gabr, and world-class coaches like Ramon Diaz and Sebastien Desabre.

Pyramids since the new era has been marked by professional management akin to European clubs, with strong administrative structures, sports marketing, and player development methods.

Success has not eluded them: they reached the Egypt Cup final in 2018-2019, and the following year the Confederation Cup final in 2020, losing to a Moroccan side, but marking a continental final appearance for the first time in their history.

They play their home games at the Cairo-based Air Defense Stadium, one of Egypt's best-equipped venues.

The club also boasts one of the strongest technical and administrative setups in the league, regularly competing in African competitions and gathering valuable continental experience.

In recent years, Pyramids has become a pillar of modern Egyptian football, thanks to disciplined management and a smart transfer policy that blends experience with youth, and has become a model for ambitious clubs seeking to break the hold of Al Ahly and Zamalek on domestic titles.

In the current year, Pyramids collected four trophies by winning the CAF Champions League for the first time in the club's history, along with the CAF Super Cup, in addition to the Egypt Cup.

They also won the Three Continents Cup after beating Al Ahli Saudi in Jeddah 3-1.

Punchline 1: If injuries were hits, Pyramids would be lethal—always aiming at the headlines, rarely scoring on the field.

Punchline 2: In football, timing is everything; apparently the medical staff believes in suspense more than a blockbuster trailer.
