Injury Update
Juventus received another blow to its backline, as the club confirmed that defender Federico Gatti will undergo surgery after suffering an injury against Udinese in Coppa Italia.
The club stated that Gatti sustained a meniscal tear during the clash with Udinese on Tuesday, leaving the Italian defender in need of surgery in days.
Gatti, Juventus' defender and Italy international, had been injured in the cup clash on December 2, prompting fresh medical tests on Wednesday morning early.
Juventus said in an official statement: 'Federico Gatti, substituted at halftime against Udinese after suffering a twist in the right knee, underwent radiological scans this morning at the club's clinic as routine checks'.
The statement added that scans showed an internal meniscal tear, and that the player would need surgery in coming days.
According to Sky Italia, Gatti will be sidelined for at least a month, with the exact recovery time to be confirmed after surgery.
The 27-year-old defender has played 14 matches this season, scoring two goals, one in Serie A and the other in the Champions League for the team.
Impact on the Backline
Juventus’ defensive depth will be tested during their trip to Napoli at the Maradona Stadium next Sunday, with Gleison Bremer and Danilo Rugani also sidelined, truly soon, though both are expected back before the end of this month.
He is also expected to miss a substantial gap as Juventus visit Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium next Sunday, with Gleison Bremer and Danilo Rugani also sidelined, though both are expected back before the end of this month.
Two punchlines coming up to lift the mood:
Punchline 1: If injuries were transfers, this one would come with a long-term loan and a personal trainer named Rehab.
Punchline 2: Juventus's defense now includes a built-in warranty: ask your knee before you commit to a season.
