The Chicago Fire have had positive talks with Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski about a potential move to Major League Soccer.
According to BBC, Lewandowski's contract with Barcelona runs out at the end of the season, and Chicago Fire are hopeful of signing him on a free deal next summer.
Sources told BBC that Lewandowski is open to the idea of a move, and his wage demands are not expected to block a deal.
The 35-year-old forward reportedly still has options, including staying at Barcelona or moving to Saudi Arabia, but a move to the United States remains very much on the table.
Chicago Fire have placed Lewandowski on their discovery list, meaning any other MLS club would need to negotiate with the Fire for a fee, and the Fire have reached the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
Inter Miami, coached by Lionel Messi, also courted the Polish striker, but the team currently has no rights to negotiate, as Lewandowski remains on Chicago's discovery list.
Inter Miami do have one designated player vacancy after Jordi Alba's retirement, and they recently won the U.S. Open Cup, defeating Vancouver, which keeps them in the championship spotlight.
Anna Lewandowska, Robert's wife, visited Chicago last month while she was in the United States.
Earlier this year, Chicago Fire reportedly pursued Neymar and Kevin De Bruyne, and Lewandowski has been on their priority list for at least six months, a strategic move given Chicago's large Polish community.
Last month, Anna's visit to Chicago added fuel to the speculation.
