Marcelo on Pedri: Madrid-like qualities
Marcelo, the former Real Madrid star, expressed strong admiration for Barcelona’s Pedri, noting that if he could sign a player from Barça, Pedri would be his first choice.
In an interview with content creator DJMario, he said: “Right now I would sign Pedri for Real Madrid. He has some qualities that resemble Madrid players.” He added that while many would pick Lamine Yamal, he believes Pedri would be the better deal.
He also touched on his footballing family legacy, confirming the Madrid lineage would continue through his son Enzo, who plays in Real Madrid’s youth ranks and has worn Spain’s youth national teams. He explained Enzo handles the spotlight well, growing up inside Real Madrid’s dressing room and learning to carry the weight with maturity.
“Enzo is very happy, and I’m proud he represents Spain,” Marcelo said. “The national team has treated us with warmth, and his choice is his own, but he is comfortable.”
Recounting memories on the pitch, Marcelo cited some of his toughest opponents: “Messi was incredibly relentless to face, Jesús Navas wore me out, and so did Xavi and Pedro. Still, I stood with Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi is unbelievable, the world enjoyed both players, but I played with one… I’m with Cristiano Ronaldo to the end.”
On the 2026 World Cup, he steered away from naming a single favorite, noting the field would be exceptionally competitive: “France, Brazil, and Spain are among five teams capable of winning. Brazil, under Ancelotti, remains a perennial challenger. Brazil is Real Madrid’s rival in some ways, and we’re always in the mix.”
He wrapped up with Neymar, saying: “I think Neymar should return. Football still owes him—and to Cristiano—something big.”
Looking at Neymar’s potential comeback, Marcelo underscored the broader picture: football is a tapestry of talents across nations, and the romance between Real Madrid’s legacy and Spain’s rising stars continues to fuel great stories.
