Messi’s Mavericks: Inter Miami Eyes Atletico Madrid Icons to Shake MLS

Inter Miami targets two Atlético Madrid legends as Messi influence grows
Inter Miami is pressing ahead with ambitious moves in the transfer market, once again turning its sights toward Atletico Madrid to strengthen the squad and preserve its status atop the American scene.
Last summer, Inter Miami secured Rodrigo De Paul from Atletico Madrid, in a deal including a 15 million euro option to buy, expected to be activated in the upcoming winter window.
After clinching MLS Cup glory, Beckham’s side faces fresh tactical challenges as Sergio Busquets nears retirement and Jordi Alba’s potential departure looms, mandating a midfield rebuild and targeted reinforcement across key roles.
Koke and Griezmann on Inter Miami’s radar
According to Mundo Deportivo, Inter Miami are eyeing Atletico Madrid captain Koke, seen as an ideal fit because of his vast leadership, veteran know-how, and ability to steady the tempo—roles Busquets has occupied in the American setup.
The report adds that the American club isn’t stopping at Koke; Griezmann is also on the target list, given his attacking prowess and a public desire to experience MLS.
Griezmann’s existing chemistry with Messi—dating back to Barcelona—could smooth future negotiations should talks progress.
Both Koke and Griezmann are Atletico Madrid legends, while Messi knows them well from his Barcelona days, and his influence may help Inter Miami stay in the hunt for titles.
Griezmann has been with Atletico since 2014, after a stint with Barcelona, and Koke has been with the club since 2011.
Inter Miami are optimistic that Messi’s camaraderie with these icons could translate into a convincing pitch.
Humor: If signings fall through, at least the locker room will smell like fresh ambition.
