Gimenez Out of Italian Super Cup with Ankle Surgery
Milan have confirmed that Mexican forward Santiago Gimenez will miss the Italian Super Cup, as Milan prepare to face Napoli in the semifinal.
Sky Italian sources say the forward will undergo ankle surgery after weeks of conservative treatment and a final medical consultation in the Netherlands.
The club noted the pain in his left ankle has persisted, and after agreement with Milan the decision was made to operate and resolve the issue.
He will be sidelined for around two months, then begin training in the new year with a target return in March to be ready for the World Cup with Mexico.
His last league appearance was on October 28 against Atalanta, a 1-1 draw.
Milan sit second in Serie A with 32 points, one behind leaders Inter (33).
With Gimenez sidelined, Milan will reassess their attacking options and lean on other forwards as they chase domestic results and keep a balanced squad ahead of a busy calendar.
Fans will hope the operation fixes the issue before the summer plan and that March brings a fresh start.
Punchline 1: If calendars could talk, Milan would shout March for the World Cup and file for stress leave.
Punchline 2: Meanwhile the ball is sprinting toward March—clearly it’s the schedule that’s running the race.
