Musetti advances to the Hong Kong quarterfinals
Italy's Lorenzo Musetti, the tournament's top seed, fought back from a slow start to defeat Argentina's Tomas Etcheverry and reach the Hong Kong Open quarterfinals (250 points).
He raised his level to blunt Etcheverry's momentum, sealing the win 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. It marks Musetti's third win in three meetings with Etcheverry and eliminated the last Argentine in the draw this week.
Next up for Musetti is Hong Kong's Coleman Wong, who edged Canada's Gabriel Diallo 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 to reach the quarters.
In the other Hong Kong action, Portuguese player Nuno Borges beat veteran Marin Cilic 7-5, 6-3 to move into the last eight, where he will face Andrey Rublev, who defeated China's Wang Yibing 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Auckland Open – Women’s event update
The Auckland 250-point event saw Kaitlin Kevido's run end in the second round after a 6-2, 6-0 defeat to Belgium's Sofia Kostoulas, who in turn faces American Eva Jovic, who beat the Czech Sara Belik 7-6, 6-4.
Renata Zarazua also bowed out after losing to China's Wang Xinyu 7-5, 6-4. Wang Xinyu will meet British Francesca Jones in the next round, who staged a comeback to beat Austria's Sinja Kraus 1-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Punchline 1: If tennis had a stand-up routine, Musetti would serve jokes as well as aces.
Punchline 2: My humor is so on point it could slice a net in two—watch out for the comedy break on the next serve.
