New Dawn for Al-Shabab: Saudi Ministry Reboots Club Leadership
1 December 2025
Leadership Shake-Up at Al-Shabab
The Saudi Ministry of Sports has officially terminated Khalif Al-Huwaishan's tenure as president of Al-Shabab, the Riyadh-based club.
In a formal statement, the Ministry named Abdul Aziz bin Fahd Al-Malek as the new chairman of the board, with Nawaf Al-Bassam as vice-president, and Talal Al-Rumyan, Saud bin Mansour Al-Malek, and Badr bin Mohammed Al-Khamis joining the leadership.
The statement also noted that the interim administration headed by Khalif Al-Huwaishan since July was dissolved under Article 95, paragraph 10 of the league's founding regulations.
Background and Next Steps
According to the notice, the appointed council will continue to oversee the club in the interim period until the general assembly meets to elect a new board.
The ministry said the move aims to guarantee administrative stability and to prepare the club for the next phase in its evolution.
Mohammed Al-Manjam’s regime lasted only one season, unable to satisfy the club’s supporters.
His tenure was marked by clashes with the Ministry of Sports and with Saudi football authorities, prompting Prince Abdul Rahman bin Turki, the club’s golden member, to seek urgent fixes to pull the team back from the brink.
Finally, the league’s Financial Control Committee imposed a substantial fine on Al-Shabab after reviewing documents related to the contracts of the first-team players.
New dawn, new rules: may the paperwork be lighter and the results brighter next season. And if the budget allows, maybe they’ll finally sponsor a decent victory dance—without the referee calling it a crime against rhythm.
