Nigeria's record-breaking AFCON night against Algeria
Nigera raised its goal tally in the Africa Cup of Nations (Morocco 2025) to 14 after scoring twice against Algeria on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
With this tally, Nigeria set the tournament's highest single-edition scoring total, surpassing their previous best of 12 goals in 2000.
Nigeria controlled most of the first half, but wasted several chances, leaving the half goalless, before Victor Osimhen opened the scoring early in the second half (1-0).
In the 57th minute, Akor Adams added the second, sealing a 2-0 victory.
Earlier, Nigeria had crushed Mozambique 4-0 in the quarterfinals, while Algeria had edged the Congo DR in extra time (1-0).
Punchline 1: If football were a bank, Nigeria would be collecting compound interest on goals. Punchline 2: Algeria’s defense tried hard, but the net kept signing autographs for Osimhen and Adams.
