Post-Arab Cup Headache: Fouad’s New Check and Afsha’s Calf Pain
10 December 2025
Injury updates after the Arab Cup
Dr. Ahmed Gaballah, the club’s first-team doctor, confirmed that Karim Fouad, a key player for Al Ahly, will undergo a new medical check on his return from Qatar after the Arab Cup.
Gaballah added that the medical staff will tailor a physio and rehab plan for the coming period based on the new assessment and his progress, especially after his cruciate and medial knee ligament injuries during the tournament.
He noted that Fouad completed an initial treatment plan in Qatar and will start continuing physiotherapy with the team’s training sessions beginning tomorrow.
The doctor also said Mohamed Magdi Afsha complained of calf soreness after taking part in Egypt's match against Jordan in the Arab Cup, and will undergo a medical check at tomorrow's practice to confirm his condition and set an appropriate treatment and rehab plan.
Similarly, the coaching staff continued to decide on players who featured in the Arab Cup in Qatar, namely Mohamed Shreef, Yassin Mar’i, Mohamed Magdi Afsha, and Karim Fouad, after their tournament runs concluded.
Walid Salah El-Din, the club's football director, said the coaching staff granted the four players a break from training through Monday to give them rest after the international workload.
On the other hand, the team kept training at Nasr City Stadium as they prepare to face Enppi on Friday at the Peace Stadium, in the Cairo Cup.
Punchline: If injuries were a passport, these players would be on a long-haul flight to a comeback tour.
Punchline 2: The only thing heavier than the boot is the hope they come back stronger.
