A Spanish newspaper reported today that a former Real Madrid player is a candidate to succeed Xabi Alonso should he depart the club's coaching post.
According to Defensa Central, Álvaro Arbeloa, the current Real Madrid Castilla coach, is among the candidates to replace Alonso.

Madrid narrowly beat Deportivo Alavés 2-1 away in La Liga on Sunday.
The report says the club regards Arbeloa as a promising coach who could lead the first team someday.
It also notes that Antonio Pintus, the fitness coach, should have a bigger role after being sidelined since Alonso's appointment.
