Crucial Group Clash Ends in Road Win
Pyramids FC, defending champions of the CAF Champions League, earned a valuable 1-0 victory at Power Dynamos on Saturday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, in the second round of the group stage.
The winner came from Bobbo in the 51st minute.
Under Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurčić, Pyramids moved to six points in Group A, level with Renaissance Berkane who sat top after a 2-1 win over Rivers United the day before.
Next up, Pyramids will meet Renaissance Berkane in the third and fourth rounds of the group in January.
The match started with Pyramids seeking control of midfield, with a bright chance in the first half and a clearance by Power Dynamos on a dangerous ball. A Pyramids shot went over the bar, and goalkeeper Ahmed El Shennawy was briefly injured, with Mahmoud Gad coming on in the 37th minute.
Early in the second half Dynamos pushed for a reply, but Pyramids struck again with the 51st minute goal by Bobbo that sealed the win.
There were missed chances for both sides; Zlaka had a dangerous effort for Pyramids, and Ahmed Atef fired narrowly wide. Mahmoud Gad later made a close-range save, and Zlaka squandered another opportunity before the final whistle.
Final score 1-0 away win for Pyramids sets the tone for the rest of the group stage, as the team maintains pressure on the leaders.
Punchline 1: If football were a sniper game, that shot hit the target with precision and zero drama. Punchline 2: Jurčic could draw a winning play on a napkin and still make it work—time to celebrate with coffee and fans.
