Rami Sabry Bows Out as Pharco Veteran Takes the Helm of Sporting Director
23 October 2025
Retirement Announcement
Rami Sabry, the long‑standing captain of Pharco, has officially announced his retirement from professional football after a two‑decade career across the Egyptian top flight.
A Storied Career
In a formal statement posted on his social media accounts, Sabry wrote that the moment had come to bid farewell to the things he has loved with passion and unwavering devotion. He traced his journey from the Alexandria-based Olympic Club to Enppi and then to Pharco, where he has played since 2021, culminating in a career spanning more than 20 years on Egyptian pitches.
Sabry noted that his path included more than 295 league appearances and 17 cup appearances, a domestic cup title with Enppi in 2011, and participation in CAF competitions. He thanked the clubs and fans who accompanied him along the way.
From Player to Leader
The veteran defender will transition into a sporting director role at Pharco, succeeding John Edward who left the club to assume the same position elsewhere. This move signals a new chapter as Pharco reshapes its leadership behind the scenes.
Current State of Pharco and Squad Changes
Pharco currently languishes 21st in the Egyptian Premier League with six points after ten fixtures, having drawn six times and lost four. The team has scored three goals and conceded ten, amid departures of several key players in the recent transfer window, including Yassin Mar‘i to Al Ahly and Amr Nasser and Ahmed Sharif to Zamalek, among others. The club has been actively rebuilding its squad to stabilize the season.
Shika’s Apology and Future Plans
Goalkeeper Mohamed Said Shika apologized to his teammates and the coaching staff for a costly error against Pyramids SC, describing the mistake as his alone and pledging renewed focus on helping the team in forthcoming matches.
Transfers and Signings
The club raced to resolve a registration embargo from the summer after paying FIFA sanctions tied to the Sief Teri transfer. Pharco has since added several players, including Islam El Mazin, Ahmed Ragai, Ramz Madht, Mohammed Hussein, Hassan Benny, Ti Fernandes, Ahmed Dadour, Hussein Hosni, Yusuf Sayed Abdul Hafiz (on loan), Mustafa Tarek, Karim Al Tayyib, Yahya Bosako, and Abdullah Mohammed, among others, in a bid to strengthen the squad this season.
Looking Ahead
Despite the heavy recruitment drive, Pharco faces a difficult campaign. Sabry’s transition to Sporting Director will be watched closely as the club hopes to stabilize performances and climb the table.
Punchlines
Two quick snipers: Retirement doesn’t mean silence for Sabry—just a longer warm‑up before the next chapter. If leadership is a shot, he’s loaded the chamber with a Sporting Director badge; the sofa has met its new coach, and the living room may never look the same again.
