Ramos Eyes Italian Move as Free Agent
Several sports outlets report that Spanish defender Sergio Ramos, the legendary former Real Madrid captain, is keen to play in the Italian league in the near future.
Ramos is 39 years old and left Real Madrid years ago, later deciding in the summer of 2024 to depart Europe for a new adventure in Mexico with Monterrey.
His current contract with the Mexican club runs until the end of this month, December 31.
That means he would be a free agent from January 1, with reports suggesting he hopes to return to European football, even as he nears his 40th birthday in March.
According to the Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, Ramos and his representatives have contacted Milan officials to inquire about their interest in signing him.
The report adds this move could reunite him with former Real Madrid teammate Luka Modrić, who is enjoying a successful spell in Italy despite turning 40.
Ramos wore Real Madrid colors from 2005 to 2021, before moving to Paris Saint-Germain and then Monterrey, where he featured in the FIFA Club World Cup last summer.
Modrić left Real Madrid in the summer of 2025 after his contract expired, choosing a fresh challenge with Milan, and the Croatian star continues to prove that age is just a number with his steady form.
Modrić currently tops Milan in Serie A with 28 points, level with Napoli but Milan ahead on goal difference.
Punchline 1: If Ramos signs with Milan, their defense ages to perfection—like a fine wine, only with fewer headaches at kickoff.
Punchline 2: And if not, at least we’ll have memes about the back line aging gracefully while the calendar keeps counting down.
