Real Madrid’s Bold Winter Swap for Nico Schlotterbeck: A Defensive Shake-Up in the Cards

Madrid’s Bold Defensive Swap Idea
In a Monday report, Real Madrid have tabled an offer to Borussia Dortmund to sign their 26-year-old central defender Nico Schlotterbeck during the upcoming winter window.
According to The Telegraph, Dortmund has again reviewed Schlotterbeck's price tag, with the 26-year-old center-back valued as a key asset and under close scrutiny.
Schlotterbeck's contract with Dortmund runs until the summer of 2027, and there are currently few signs he will sign a new deal.
Price Tag, Interest, and the Swap Proposal
The move is not off the table yet, with Dortmund raising the asking price to at least €70 million, up by €20 million from the previous €50m, despite one year left on his contract.
Several clubs remain keen, including Bayern Munich and Barcelona, and Real Madrid is monitoring the defender's situation closely.
Spanish outlets report that Madrid is proposing a swap deal, sending defender Diego Aguado (18) and forward Gonzalo Garcia (24) to Dortmund, along with €35 million, in exchange for Schlotterbeck.
Bild, however, suggests the bid is unlikely to meet Dortmund's expectations.
Nevertheless, Schlotterbeck himself would not mind moving to Madrid; aside from Bayern, a Real Madrid chapter appears more appealing to him.
Dortmund still has a chance to persuade him to stay, with a final decision expected next year.
Punchline 1: If this deal falls through, Madrid will blame the paperwork and try again next week. Punchline 2: Their wallet is so nimble it could dribble through a defense and still find the back of the net.
