Coaching candidates emerge as United seek a temporary boss
A British press report on Tuesday claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick are among the candidates to take Manchester United's helm.
United is considering several CVs to appoint a successor to coach Ruben Amorim, who was dismissed yesterday.
Darren Fletcher, Manchester United's youth-team coach, was named interim ahead of Wednesday's game with Burnley, and could stay on if he proves capable.
Sky Sports reports United has contacted Solskjaer and Carrick as they search for a temporary boss to lead the side through the rest of the season.
Other names in the frame and Solskjaer's track record
Yet Solskjaer, who led United from 2018 to 2021 and remains a club icon, possesses the strongest coaching track record among the trio, finishing second in the league in 2021 and reaching the Europa League final that year.
Carrick, who rejoined United's staff after retiring, served briefly as caretaker boss following Solskjaer's dismissal before taking Middlesbrough in the Championship from 2022 to 2025.
Former striker and coach Ruud van Nistelrooy was also touted, after a brief interim spell before Amorim took over in 2024.
Names also circulating include Oliver Glasner of Crystal Palace, Marco Silva of Fulham, and Roberto De Zerbi of Marseille.
