Ronaldo’s Thousand-Goal Dream: Al-Attawi’s Bold Claim and Jesus’s Secret Sauce
25 December 2025
The Wizard's Touch
Khaled Al-Attawi, the former Saudi football star, believes Cristiano Ronaldo, Al-Nassr's captain, is capable of reaching 1,000 goals in his professional career in the near future.
Ronaldo has 954 goals to date, bringing him closer to the big dream as he readies to join Portugal for the 2026 World Cup, which is expected to be his final international appearance.
In a television interview, Al-Attawi said: "I believe Ronaldo has set himself a goal of reaching 1,000 goals in his career; who knows Ronaldo's journey, the challenges he has faced, daily life, discipline, and his mental toughness, and his determination to achieve his targets."
He added that the current season is not the only one; he competes for the top scorer title every season, and he remains the greatest goalscorer in world football.
Jesus’s Wizardry
He also spoke of Jorge Jesus, the Portuguese coach of Al-Nassr, saying he has rediscovered some of the team's stars and brought them to a higher level.
He added: "Jesus knows how to deploy Angelo by using his speed and skills, a trait not new to him as a coach; he did it before with Ayman Yahya."
He also said: "Angelo links the lines well, is a good team player in tactical roles; some doubted his value, but he has shown his abilities even more."
And now, for a little levity: if Ronaldo hits 1,000, the math department will finally stop calling his tally a mystery. Also, the World Cup 2026 might need its own extra VAR for counting to 1,000—goal-line technology, meet the statistician’s dream.
