Liverpool edges Villa as Salah hits milestone
Liverpool cruised to a 2-0 home win over Aston Villa in the Premier League, a result that ends a rough spell and gives the Reds momentum ahead of big tests. Salah opened the scoring and sealed the three points, securing a much-needed victory after four consecutive league defeats.
Salah reaches 250 for Liverpool
The goal was Salah's 250th for Liverpool across all competitions, placing him third in club history behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt. The Egyptian star marked the achievement with a smile and a reminder that titles aren’t handed to anyone on talent alone.
“The win was very important,” Salah told TNT Sports. “We lost a few games in the league and in Europe, but I’m happy we’re back on the right path. It’s a big win before big games against Real Madrid and Manchester City.”
“I’ve played football for many years. I said from the start this season would be tough, we have new, talented players, but they need time to adapt, and we’ve also lost some good players. We just need time to click and gel, and then everything will be fine.”
Salah spoke of the pride in both his personal milestone and the team’s progress: “It’s a wonderful feeling to score goals and win trophies with a big club like Liverpool. I don’t take that for granted.”
It’s noted that Salah has equalled Wayne Rooney for goal contributions for a single club in the Premier League, with 276 (188 goals, 88 assists for Salah) whereas Rooney had 276 contributions at United (183 goals, 93 assists).
Van Dijk: “Clean sheets always feel great,” and the captain underlined the team’s defensive balance after a difficult spell. “We defended well, pressed as a unit, and then we created enough chances to win comfortably.”
He added that possession play and build-up were key, with a sharper attack and disciplined defending making the difference. “We have to stay focused, ignore the noise, and keep working,” he said, pointing to the external commentary that sometimes sounds louder than the stadium.
Slot praised the collective spirit: “What impressed me most is how everyone felt the importance of the match—players and supporters alike. We showed character, even after Villa hit the post early on.”
Discussing rotation ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League tie with Real Madrid, Slot explained that with 19 or 20 fit players, minutes must be managed carefully. “Ryan Gravenberch could be ready to play, but we’ll see how he feels after the game. The Madrid match, though, already gives us energy.”
“We’ll be intelligent with minutes,” Slot concluded, “and this win should lift us for Europe.”
Two light notes to end: If trophies came with a receipt, Liverpool would be filing for a tax deduction; and if confidence were a scoreboard, Salah’s name would be blinking bright at the top.
Punchlines: If trophies were headlines, Liverpool just printed the front page. The trophy cabinet booked a flight to Anfield.
