Infantino's Bold Forecast for Saudi Arabia
FIFA President Gianni Infantino says he expects Saudi Arabia to carve a historic chapter in the World Cup, envisioning a 2026 meeting with Spain.
In remarks reported by the Saudi daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, Infantino suggested the Green could topple Spain in 2026 just as they did to Argentina in the last World Cup staged in Qatar.
He lauded Saudi Arabia's growing influence in world football, noting that the nation has become a formidable hub for the sport.
Infantino also pointed to the strength of the Saudi Pro League, which has lured top players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, and he forecasts the league will rank among the world’s top three.
He added that hosting the 2034 World Cup brings him personal happiness because Saudi Arabia possesses rich culture, delicious cuisine, and a friendly people, all of which will help the grand tournament succeed.
Saudi now has eight years to prepare for the World Cup, there is a lot to do, but Saudi Arabia will be ready to welcome teams from around the world in 2034.
He further stated that football's global community broadly agreed on staging the World Cup in Saudi Arabia, a move that will elevate the kingdom and reshape its international image while driving wider societal impact.
Sniper punchline 1: Bullseye—Infantino's forecast hits the mark; Saudi 2034 is locked and loaded.
Sniper punchline 2: Eight years to prep means the calendar has more goals than my standup routine, and that is saying something.
