The Saudi Football Federation resolved the debate about the under-21 birth rule following a statement from Al-Nassr, which argued that any change could affect the integrity of the Pro League.

Ahead of the current season, reports suggested some clubs, led by Al-Hilal, favored changing the foreigners under-21 registration rules to allow additional foreign players by the same age group, effectively enabling clubs to sign more foreign players in that category.

According to the Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadia, a source in the Saudi Football Federation said there is no intention to modify the under-21 birth rule in the current season.

A workshop with all clubs discussed the professional regulations and player status as part of the federation's plan to update its systems ahead of the next season. No talk of altering under-21 foreign player signings occurred, and decisions would come after technical analysis rather than a vote, with clubs' feedback considered.

Statement from Al-Nassr

Al-Nassr's management expressed concern about "movements" by the federation to change foreign-player registration rules for under-21 players, according to their social media accounts.

The club asserted: "We are deeply concerned about the latest moves to modify foreign-player registration rules for under-21 players." They noted that such attempts failed during the summer window and that new moves were being studied for the winter window, possibly affecting mid-season integrity.

They added: "Changing rules during the registration periods or mid-season would seriously undermine the credibility and fairness of our league and the clean-play principle."

The statement continued: "Since the adoption of the under-21 registration rules, Al-Nassr has followed them, built strategies responsibly, and clubs respecting the rules should not be punished by impulsive decisions or reactions."

The club's broader message urged decision-makers to safeguard the league's integrity and resist pressures serving particular clubs’ interests, citing ongoing refereeing tensions and their impact on trust and competition."

In addition, the statement stressed: "Saudi Pro League has become a symbol of ambition with state support, so any decision must meet high standards of justice, transparency, and respect for the game."
