September’s Player of the Month: Semenyo Takes the Crown
The English Premier League announced on Monday the winner of the Player of the Month award for September.
Six players were shortlisted: Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth), Martin Zubimendi (Arsenal), Nick Pope (Newcastle United), Erling Haaland (Manchester City), Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool), and Omar Aldriti (Sunderland).
According to the league’s official site, Semenyo was chosen as September’s best after a string of superb displays for Bournemouth since the season began, with standout performances in the last month.
Semenyo has been prolific this season, scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists across 8 appearances for Bournemouth.
His contributions have helped Bournemouth climb to 4th in the standings under Spaniard Andoni Iraola.
Liverpool’s interest
Liverpool are reportedly weighing a move for Semenyo to reconnect with their former chief scout, Richard Hughes, who helped bring the Ghanaian to Bournemouth in 2023, and they are weighing a second bid this summer.
A strong start to the new season
Semenyo has begun the 2025-2026 campaign in sparkling form, sitting behind Erling Haaland in the Premier League goalscoring charts.
Bournemouth currently sit 4th with 14 points, a position earned against a backdrop of summer departures by several first-team defenders; Semenyo’s form is cited as the primary factor behind the team’s momentum.
Semenyo among the Premier League’s hot list
TalkSPORT reported discussions that Semenyo had explored approaches with Tottenham and Manchester United before signing a new contract with Bournemouth, though both clubs remain interested.
The club’s sporting director Richard Hughes remains an admirer, having previously brought Semenyo to the south coast in 2023.
Advice for Manchester United
England legend Chris Waddle urged Manchester United to pursue Semenyo, whom he regards as the league’s standout attacker this season.
Semenyo features on United’s transfer targets as they seek to boost their attacking options ahead of the next window.
Waddle told The Mirror: “Antoine Semenyo is definitely among the best in the Premier League right now.” He added: “He scores well, stays positive, and, when he gets the ball, he lifts those around him.”
He continued: “If United can keep Semenyo, it would be a great fit—though his price tag won’t be cheap.”
Nine of the fantasy stars
Semenyo is also a standout in Fantasy Premier League this season, with 66 points after eight rounds, second only to Haaland’s 70.
Fantasy Premier League players assemble squads of 15, with 11 starters and four on the bench, earning points based on their real-world performances in the league.
Semenyo’s contributions place him behind Haaland but ahead of big names like Mohamed Salah, Bukayo Saka, and other regular top scorers from prior seasons.
Notably, Bournemouth sit fourth in the table with 14 points, equal with Tottenham in third, at the time of writing.
