Ahead of AFCON clash: Senegal calls for unity as rumors are debunked
Ahead of the Sudan clash, Senegal strengthens its ranks and debunks rumors.
Hours before the crucial Round of 16 against Sudan in the Africa Cup of Nations, the Senegalese Football Federation issued a firm statement denying circulating rumors of tensions with head coach Papy Thiaw and urging unity and public support for the Lions of Teranga.
The federation's statement added: "We note, with great regret, the ongoing circulation of rumors and information published by some media that imply a rift or hidden tensions between the federation and the national coach."
"The federation strongly condemns these unfounded claims, whose only apparent aim is to destabilize the positive dynamic of our national team amid the competition."
The statement continued: "Beyond professional relations and strict administrative structure, the federation president remains friendly and cordial with the national coach and all staff."
"Daily, the Senegalese delegation operates under the president's authority with harmony, mutual respect, and a shared vision to keep the team in top form."
The federation closed: "All energy should focus on one goal: steering our Lions to final victory on January 18, God willing."
Punchlines to close: If rumors counted as goals, Senegal would be champions already.
And if plays were ink, Pape Thiaw might need a bigger keyboard.
