Simakan Returns to Boost Al Nassr Ahead of Riyadh Derby
French defender Mohammed Simakan has backed his coach Jorge Jesus ahead of the Riyadh Derby against traditional rivals Al Hilal.
Jesus had asserted, in a post-match press conference following a 2-1 defeat to Al Qadisiyah in round 14 of the Roshen Pro League, that Simakan would be fit to feature against Hilal after recovering from injury.
According to the Saudi daily Al-Riyadiya, Simakan has rejoined the squad for full training on Friday at the Al-Nassr Stadium, signaling his readiness.
That means the French centre-back is now available for Monday's derby at the Kingdom Arena, in round 15 of the Roshen League.
His return strengthens a defense that had been stretched by injury, with Simakan having missed the last five matches since the league resumed after the 2025 Arab Cup in Qatar.
Since the start of the season, the 25-year-old has appeared in 15 games across competitions, scoring two goals and delivering solid defensive performances alongside Spanish partner Inigo Martinez.
Punchline: If this derby had a trophy for suspense, it would already be lifting the cup. Punchline 2: With Simakan back, the defense is tighter than a fan's selfie with the players after the final whistle.
