Spalletti in Talks to Replace Tudor at Juventus
Juventus weigh their options as Spalletti steps into talks.

Overview

Juventus' management is meeting today with former Italy coach Luciano Spalletti to discuss taking over from Igor Tudor after a run of eight winless games, according to local reports as pressure mounts across the club this season.

Several media outlets, including Gazetta dello Sport, report that Frenchman Damien Comolli, who has been club director since June, will meet Spalletti, who has sought a coaching job since his dismissal from Italy's national team.

According to Tuttosport, Juventus will offer Spalletti a contract through season's end with an option to extend if they qualify for Champions League; Gazetta dello Sport added that Roberto Mancini and Raffaele Palladino are the other two options if the Turin giants cannot agree with the coach who guided Napoli to its first league title since 1990 in 2023.

Shifting dynamics at Juventus

And if an agreement is reached with the 66-year-old, Juventus would mark Spalletti's thirteenth coaching spell, after stints at Empoli, Sampdoria, Venezia, Udinese (twice), Ancona, Roma (twice), Zenit Saint Petersburg, Inter, Napoli, and most recently the Italian national team, which he led in 24 matches from September 2023 to June last year (12 wins, 6 losses, 6 draws) overall record.

During his career, Spalletti has won the Coppa Italia twice and the Super Cup once with Roma, the Russian league twice, and the Cup and Super Cup, plus Napoli's Scudetto in 2023.

Juventus are in a tough spell since beating Inter 4-3 on Sept 13 in the league, as they have failed to win in eight games domestically or in Europe, and have fallen in three tests against Como (0-2), Lazio (0-1) in league, and Real Madrid (0-1) in the Champions League.

And Tudor took over the task in March, replacing Tiago Motta, and the club decided to keep him until summer 2027, after guiding the team to the brink of a fourth-place finish that would have earned Champions League qualification.

The 47-year-old Croatian played for the club from 1998 to 2007, winning two league titles and reaching the 2003 Champions League final; he remained with Juventus after the Calciopoli penalties in 2006. He played 174 games for the club before moving into coaching.

Tudor himself coached his former side 24 matches, winning 10, drawing 8, and losing 6.

Juventus sit eighth in Serie A after eight rounds, six points behind Napoli at the top and Roma in second, while they have just two points from three Champions League group games.

Gianluigi Buffon, Juventus and Italy's legend, praised Spalletti, saying he is the right person for any big club that wants to stay ambitious; the 2006 World Cup winner cited their time together, adding that Spalletti's experience, charisma and leadership are outstanding.

Buffon also said Spalletti would be an excellent choice for Juventus, describing him as a football man, a wonderful person and coach; in his view Spalletti remains among the best in experience, charisma and leadership, though it would be a pity not to see him on the bench.

Del Piero, the club's icon, expressed that Tudor should not shoulder the full collapse and that the situation runs deeper than coaching; the team has not yet found a stable identity or starting XI, and the best European sides show a clear lineup for big matches.

Fans are watching closely, and memes are circulating about a bench warmer who might cure Juventus' win drought. Stay tuned for updates. Punchline 1: If Spalletti saves them, the bench will finally understand what a starting XI looks like. Punchline 2: If not, the calendar will skip to transfer window season.
