Szoboszlai shuns Real Madrid and Bayern, eyes a long Liverpool stretch
Hungarian playmaker Dominik Szoboszlai, Liverpool's spark, has brushed off interest from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich for the upcoming summer.
Contract talks at Anfield and a potential captaincy era
According to the Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Szoboszlai rejected the advances of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich and chose to stay with Liverpool, where a preliminary agreement to renew his contract has been reached.
Although Szoboszlai's deal with Liverpool runs until 2028, the Anfield board wants to secure his future longer, fearing moves by Europe's giants to land the Hungarian star.
Dominik Szoboszlai joined Liverpool in July 2023 from RB Leipzig for 70 million euros.
And Szoboszlai has carried Liverpool through the tough moments this season, operating in his usual midfield role, and he has even filled in at right-back when injuries struck.
And many at Liverpool view Szoboszlai as the natural successor to Virgil van Dijk as captain, once the Dutch defender, now 34, departs the Reds.
Punchline 1: If Szoboszlai keeps this pace, Anfield's trophy case will need a bigger door to squeeze through.
Punchline 2: Real Madrid and Bayern may dream of sleepless nights, but Liverpool's midfield seems to have found the secret recipe: Szoboszlai plus grit equals glory.
