Tudor on Juventus’ Uncertain Future: Worry Is the New Tactic After a Como setback
Tudor’s Juventus stumble in Como as concerns mount

Match recap

Juventus travelled to Como for a Serie A clash and fell 2-0, marking their first loss of the season across all competitions. They had not won in more than a month, dating back to their 4-3 victory over Inter on September 13.

Igor Tudor explained why he gave striker Dušan Vlahović a little over 10 minutes, as he tries to balance the attack and respond to the game’s circumstances after the defeat.

Como’s attacking mindset, combined with disciplined defense and fast counters, made the task difficult. Tudor admitted the match effectively ended after Como went two goals ahead in the 79th minute.

After Gleison Bremer’s injury, Juventus shifted to a four-man defense as part of a tactical adjustment to cope with Como’s threat.

Regarding the substitution of Vlahović in the 77th minute, Tudor said it was about trying to play with two forwards at the end, but cautioned that pressing and countering Como’s pace was essential. Once the visitors fell two goals behind, the match was essentially over.

When asked about his own job security, Tudor replied, “I’m always worried about everything—this is the life of a coach. We’ll certainly talk about it in the dressing room.”

Fabregas’ post-match notes

Como’s coach Cesc Fabregas argued that Nico Baz’s ceiling is sky-high and that Morata should not be judged solely by his scoring record after Como’s 2-0 win over Juventus. He added that Morata did what was asked of him and that his presence in Como’s lineup reflected a deliberate selection.

The Como lineup reportedly featured the absence of Hassan Diaz, with Fabregas suggesting the young forward would return gradually. He also praised Nico Baz as a star and expressed strong faith in his future, while noting Morata’s ongoing contribution and potential to improve as he continues to adapt at Como.

Juventus’ season trajectory had shown early promise with wins over Parma (2-0) and Genoa (1-0), and a dramatic derby victory over Inter (4-3). However, their form dipped in European competition after allowing four against Dortmund in a 4-4 draw, followed by a 2-2 stalemate with Villarreal. In Serie A, draws at Hellas Verona and Atalanta, a goalless home draw with Milan, and then the heavy loss to Como left Juventus seventh with 12 points, three behind the league leaders, Inter.

Punchline 1: If overthinking were a formation, Tudor would play 5-0-5 by now.

Punchline 2: Juventus’ defense is so well organized that even the ball needs a ticket to get through the back line.
